Basic Pixie Bonnet

This adorable pixie bonnet would be a cozy addition to any newborn or family photo shoot. It can be created in classic colors like the neutral shown here or in fun colors for the holiday seasons. This would be a welcomed gift for any new mom!


Level: Beginner

Materials:

Hook: 5.5mm / I-9 US

Yarn: Hobby Lobby I Love This Cotton, 3.5 oz skein

Amount of Yarn Needed: 0-3 Months - approximately 1.1 oz / 31 g / 57 yds / 52 m


Pattern Notes:

  • Pattern is written in US terms.

  • Do not turn the bonnet right side out until completely finished.

  • Keep moderate to loose tension when slip stitching around the base.

  • CH 1 does not count as a stitch.

  • Pictures are very helpful with this pattern, especially for the first few rows and tie portion. The downloadable PDF includes pictures, and can be found here.

Abbreviations:

CH(S) - chain

BB - back bump

BLO - back loop only

HDC - half double crochet

FLO - front loop only

SS - slip stitch

ST(S) - stitch(es)


Approximate Finished Sizes

0-3 Months 5.5” depth x 6.0” height


Gauge: 4” x 4” = 9 rows and 12 half double crochet stitches


Pattern:

Size 0-3 Months

CH 22


Row 1: HDC into the second CH from the hook and in each Ch across. Do not turn. HDC in the CH next to the slip knot and in the next 20 CHS. (42)


Row 2: CH 1, turn, HDC through each ST of the previous row. (42) our last stitch will be worked in the turning CH.


Row 3-13: CH 1, turn, HDC in each ST (42)


Do not finish off.


Finishing and Ties:

Ch 35


SS in the second BB from the hook and in each BB of the CH. (34)


SS around the base of the bonnet (26)


CH 35


SS in the second BB from the hook and in each BB of the CH.


Finish off and weave in end.


Turn the bonnet right side out.
