This crochet cross body sling bag works up in just around a half hour making it such a quick project for markets or gifts! The way it's designed has the top closed enough that things won't fall out with just a button, no sewing of a zipper necessary.

Skill Level: Easy


Materials:

Hook: 9 mm/M/N-13 or size to match gauge

Yarn: Wool Ease Thick and Quick in color Petrol (80% acrylic/20% wool, weight 6 bulky, 6 oz/170 g, 106 yd/97m)

1.5" Toggle Button

Scissors

Darning Needle

Abbreviations:

CH(s) - chain

DEC- decrease

HDC- half double crochet

SC- single crochet

SL ST - slip stitch

ST(s) - stitch(es)


Gauge:

4”/10 cm x 4"/10cm= 7 HDC STs and 5 HDC rows


Pattern:

CH 13

Row 1: HDC in second CH from hook and in each CH across. (12)

Row 2: CH 1, turn, HDC in each ST across. (12)

Round 3 (picture included in pdf): CH 1, turn, INC in first ST of the row, HDC in next 10 STs, INC in last ST of the row. Continue working counterclockwise. Place 1 HDC at the end of each row for a total of 2 STs. INC in first CH of the row, HDC in next 10 CHs, INC in last CH of the row. Place 1 HDC at the end of each row for a total of 2 STs. (32)

Round 4: HDC in each ST around, INC in last ST. (33)

Round 5: INC, HDC in next 14 STs, INC, INC, HDC in the remaining 16 STs. (36)

Rounds 6-7: HDC in each ST around. (36)

Round 8: HDC in first ST, turn. Turn project right side out. SL ST through both the front and back of the first 4 STs to connect both sides together (picture included in pdf). SL ST through the back of the next 5 STs, SL ST in next ST and CH 6, SL ST in the same ST to create a loop, SL ST in the next 5 STs, SL ST through both sides of the remaining 4 STs. (1 HDC, 20 SL STs, 6 CHs) Do not cut yarn.


The remainder of the pattern is for the strap.

CH 60 (picture included in pdf)

Make sure strap isn't twisted. SL ST to attach to top right corner (or left corner for left handed crocheters) (picture included in pdf). SL ST into side 1.5" down from the corner (picture included in pdf).

Row 1: CH 1, turn, HDC in 3rd CH from hook and in each CH across strap. Cut yarn, finish off. Using a darning needle, pull tail inside bag about 1.5" from top (picture included in pdf). Weave in ends. Attach button on the front center.
