Lucky's Leash

The free version of this pattern is written below in this blog post.

An ad-free PDF pattern is available on ETSY here as well as on Ravelry here.

A video tutorial can be found here.

This crocheted dog leash pattern is a beginner-friendly project using basic stitches. This pattern can be made thinner or thicker to best accommodate your pup. It works up quickly and makes a great gift for all dog parents or as an item to sell at craft shows.

To make this leash, you only need to know how to make the chain and single crochet stitches. The way these stitches are worked up is called the Thermal Stitch. A video on that can be found here.

2/3"/1.7cm x 60"/152cm (excluding hardware)

- How to single crochet.

NOTES

  • The variation of single crochet used in this pattern is called the thermal stitch.

  • A video tutorial on how to work up the thermal stitch can be found here.

  • For a skinnier leash chain 3 to start, for a thicker leash chain 5 to start.

  • This pattern is for a dog leash measuring 5'/1.5m long and 2/3" wide.

  • After row 68 the handle portion of the leash should be about 11.5"/29cm long.

  • The finished leash measures 5'/1.5m long. If you would like a 4'/1.2m leash, omit rows 360-390.

PATTERN Chain 4

Row 1: Single crochet in the second back bump from hook and in each back bump across.

Row 2: Chain 1, turn, single crochet through the back loop and front loop below.

Rows 3: Chain 1, turn, single crochet through the back loop and unworked front loop below.

Row 4-68: Repeat row 2.

Row 69: Chain 1, turn, single crochet across through both the front loop and back loop of the current row and the unworked front loop below. This completes the handle portion of the leash. It should measure at least 11.5"/29cm long.

Fold in half so the first and last rows are touching.

Row 70: Chain 1, turn, crochet ends together by placing a single crochet in each stitch across through the back loop only and the chain.

Row 71: Chain 1, turn, single crochet in each stitch across through the back loop only and the unworked front loop below.

Rows 72-390: Repeat row 65.

Row 391: Chain 1, turn, single crochet in each stitch across through both the front loop and back loop. Do not work through the front loops of the previous row.

Row 392-396: Chain 1, turn, single crochet in each stitch across.

Cut yarn leaving an 8"/20cm tail.

Slide keychain clasp over the single crochet rows so the top can be folded down to the unworked front loops of row 390.

Chain 1, turn, slip stitch through the unfinished back loop of row 390.

Finish off. Weave in ends by sewing across strap for extra durability.

Time to take your furry friend for a walk :)
