The "Cross My Heart"Bag Pattern

This crochet bag works up in under a half hour making it such a quick project for markets or gifts! The way it's designed has the top closed enough that things won't fall out with just a button, no sewing of a zipper necessary.

Materials:

Hook : 6.5 mm/ K 10 1/2

Yarn: Wool Ease Thick 'n Quick

4.1 ounces

Darning Needle

Scissors

Measuring Tape

Abbreviations:

BB - back bump

CH(s) - chain

DEC- decrease

HDC- half double crochet

SC- single crochet

SL ST - slip stitch

ST(s) - stitch(es)


Gauge:

2”/5cmx2"/5cm= 4 HDC STs and 3 HDC rows


Finished Size:

Purse: 10.5" wide/27 cm x 5.5"x14cm high x 3.5"x9cm deep Strap: 36"/91cm long x 2.5"/6.35cm wide


Pattern:

CH 17

Row 1: HDC in second CH from hook and in each CH across. (16)

Rows 2-3: CH 1, turn, HDC in each ST. (16)

Round 4 (see picture in pdf): CH 1. Turn. INC in first ST. HDC in next 14 STs. INC in last ST of the row. Continue working counterclockwise. Place 1 HDC at the end of each row for a total of 3 STs. INC in first ST of row. HDC in next 14 STS, INC in last ST of the row. Place 1 HDC at the end of each row for a total of 3 HDC STs. SL ST to connect. (see picture in pdf 4) (42)

Round 5: CH 1, HDC around. SL ST to connect. (42)

Round 6 (see picture in pdf): CH 1, HDC in first 19 STs, INC, HDC in next 21 STs, INC, SL ST to connect. (44)

Round 7: CH 1, HDC in first 21 STs, INC, HDC in next 21STs, INC, SL ST to connect. (46)

Round 8-10: HDC in each ST around. SL ST to connect. (46) Turn work right side out. If you are sewing in a zipper, omit row 11.

Row 11: SL ST through both the front and back of the first 4 STs to connect both sides together. (see picture in pdf). SL ST through the next 7 STs, SL ST in next ST (this should be the middle) ST and CH 8, SL ST in the same ST to create a loop. SL ST in the next 7 STs. SL ST through both sides of the remaining 4 STs. Finish off. Weave in ends.

Sew button on the front center at the top.

For the Strap: Make your slip knot with a long 8"/20cm tail.

CH 70

Row 1: HDC in second CH from hook and in each CH across. (69)

Row 2: CH 1, turn, HDC in each ST across. (69)

Finish off with a long 8"/20cm tail. Place the left side of the strap adjacent to the top of row 11 (see picture in pdf).

Thread darning needle with tail. Whip stitch the strap to the bag. (see picture in pdf)

Repeat with the other strap.

Finish off. Weave in ends.
